Poker Tips For Newbies

If you’re just beginning to play poker, or you have played before with friends for “play money” and now want to enter the stage with the big spenders, then you’ll want to take heed of a few poker tips for newbies. The most common poker games played today are 7 Card Stud, Black Jack and Texas Holdem, to name a few.

Remember, even the most advanced players who win regularly realise that luck is very much a part of the game. However, because they have studied and played thousands of hours of poker, they have refined their strategies to the point they win more often than lose, or at least that’s what they’d have you believe.

One of the major poker tips for newbies is to learn to remain calm and focused. As a new player it’s easy to either get excited because you could win a hand or to become emotionally trapped because you’ve lost so much you keep on betting hoping to recouperate and lessen the loss. You must play with an objective mind, not an emotional or egotistic disposition. This is very important, especially if you are playing for real money.

Another major tip is to only bet what you can afford to lose. If you go and play £20 because you’re looking to get experience then this would be a good beginner’s strategy as long as you do indeed learn. You can consider your £20 loss as a tuition fee in the school of good poker playing. Who knows, you may just win. However the lesson here is to spend as little as possible and an amount that will not lead to pain and misery later on.

Watch experienced players and see if you can understand why they made the moves they did, how they conduct themselves especially if they are bluffing, and observe their demeanor to begin to get insight into how to become a good poker player.
